Central Valley Heart & Stroke Walk to be held at Tesoro Viejo for the next three years

04-19-2017

The American Heart Association Central Valley division and Tesoro Viejo announced today that Tesoro Viejo will host the Central Valley Heart & Stroke Walk at the site of the upcoming master-planned community in 2017, 2018 and 2019 as part of a three-year agreement.

“We had so much fun last year as the presenting sponsor of the Central Valley Heart Walk while raising awareness and funds for this important cause,” said Karen McCaffrey, vice president of Tesoro Viejo Development. “Tesoro Viejo has been thoughtfully planned as a healthy, sustainable community where residents can enjoy an enhanced quality of life focusing on health, wellness and vitality. As this event promotes physical activity and heart-healthy living, we are proud and excited to host it for the next three years.”

Situated at the foot of Little Table Mountain, Tesoro Viejo is McCaffrey Homes' upcoming 1,600-acre master-planned community located off Highway 41 in Madera.  A model of innovative design and sustainable living, the award-winning community will be a vibrant hub for southeast Madera County where residents can live, work, and play with housing and business opportunities, a walkable town center, green living, thriving industry, and neighborhood parks and schools. The community will feature more than 15 miles of scenic nature trails to foster healthy living, outdoor activities and family-friendly fun.

The annual Heart & Stroke Walk is the largest local event for the association and usually draws over 2,500 walkers and runners who help raise funds to fight heart disease and stroke. All proceeds go toward the American Heart Association’s overall goal of funding research to find better ways to treat and prevent cardiovascular diseases and stroke while providing educational health resources to the local region.

“We are thrilled to be taking the Heart Walk back to Tesoro Viejo for the next three years as we heard a lot of great things about the site from participants who came out for the walk last year,” said Shannon MacAdam, executive director for the American Heart Association Central Valley division. “With the master-planned community focusing on health and wellness, it fits in perfectly with our Healthy For Good movement which really focuses on moving more, eating smart and achieving overall wellness. It aligns with the mission of the association, plus it’s a beautiful location that’s a great place to walk.”

According to the American Heart Association, walking is the simplest positive change individuals can make to effectively improve their heart health because it’s free, easy and has the lowest dropout rate of any exercise. The benefits of walking and moderate physical activity for as little as 30 minutes each day can help reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke - the number 1 and number 5 killers of Americans, respectively.
