Students at Tesoro Viejo will be served by Chawanakee Unified, an award-winning school district, serving 1,200 students in eastern Madera County. Chawanakee Unified prides itself in delivering a rigorous educational program. Students benefit from the integration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics across the curriculum – traditionally referred to as STEM.  Art also plays a big role in the district’s curriculum, integrating arts education in classroom learning.

The district has a strong tradition of excellence with a focus on project-based learning to be sure students can demonstrate mastery of skills. Chawanakee Unified has been recognized by the California School Board Association as a Golden Bell Award Winner for Excellence and its schools have earned numerous academic and athletic distinctions.

Hillside Elementary School at Tesoro Viejo, is conveniently located within the heart of Hillside Village making it easy for students to walk or bike to school.

Designed as a true neighborhood school, Chawanakee Unified School District’s Hillside School features a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) curriculum, as well as a college and career exploration program that gives students an opportunity to learn about careers in the medical field and biotechnologies.  Open for the 2018-19 school year, the school features state-of-the-art facilities, including a library/media center, music room, outdoor learning spaces, and athletic facilities with gymnasium.

Minarets High School received a Golden Bell Award from the California School Board Association in the fall of 2011 recognized as an "Invigorating High School" with its programs to enhance student learning and engagement. Their 21st Century High School Program was recognized for Invigorating High School.  Minarets has two primary Career Pathways - Ag and Natural Resources, as well as Arts, Media and Entertainment.  The school also has a tremendous Ag and FFA Program with 400 current FFA members, and has earned numerous academic, athletic and media distinctions.

Additionally, Minarets has two Apple Distinguished Educators (Jon Corippo and Patrick Wilson), two Central Valley Computer Using Educators Teachers of the Year (Jon Corippo in 2009-2010 and Jamie Smith in 2011-2012), the CVCUE and CUE Site Administrator of the Year in 2010 (Michael Niehoff), etc.


FUTURE EDUCATION CENTER:

To meet the needs of the growing Tesoro Viejo community, a future TK-12 educational center is planned within the community.  The education center is planned to include another TK-8 grade school, along with Rio Mesa High School to serve grades 9-12.
