Real estate veteran Sheryl O’Neal celebrates 10 years with McCaffrey Homes

04-19-2021
For Sheryl O’Neal, there’s nothing more rewarding than helping people into homeownership.  She is celebrating 10 years in sales with McCaffrey Homes and currently serves as one of the community representatives for McCaffrey Homes’ popular Ivy collection at Tesoro Viejo, Madera County’s newest, award-winning master planned community.

“I love people’s reaction when they realize that they can qualify to buy a home,” she says.
Her excitement and enthusiasm for helping people buy a new home is evident by the experience of homebuyers Scott and Nicole Starnes.

“Sheryl always greeted us with warmth and a smile – she was always so excited for us even from the first day of walking in her office,” said the Starnes. “She always had time to take our calls and questions no matter how busy she was; Sheryl was just a delight.”

Sheryl started her real estate career in the 1980’s and has spent the last 24 years in new home construction sales. She loves working in new home construction sales where she gets to work in beautifully decorated model homes with lush landscaping and beautiful scenery.

“We are so fortunate to have Sheryl on our team,” says Karen McCaffrey, vice president of McCaffrey Homes.  “She is an outstanding real estate professional that has a sincere passion for what she does – our homebuyers benefit greatly from her expertise and care.”

Sheryl says she loves working in new construction where everyday she can hear the sound of construction, smell the lumber after it gets dropped off, and see neighborhoods go up from the first house to the last.

She originally moved to Madera from Southern California in 1970 in search of a quieter lifestyle and a good community to raise a family.  She is right at home at Tesoro Viejo in Madera County and loves seeing the community come alive.

“It’s exciting to see kids playing in the parks, riding their scooters and walking to the clubhouse,” she says.

The biggest shift she saw during the pandemic was homebuyers needing a home that accommodated them working from home.  Tesoro Viejo is a big draw for people wanting a healthy environment with lots of outdoor open space.

She says she loves working for McCaffrey Homes, which is a three-generation family business.  The McCaffreys are dedicated to perfection, promotes a team atmosphere, and involved in the day-to-day work, she says.

“It is rewarding to have the McCaffreys so involved – they truly want feedback and are always asking for how we can be better,” Sheryl says.

It’s a busy time in new home sales.  Sheryl says that the word is out on Tesoro Viejo, as she gets calls from people in Southern California and the Bay Area.  The pandemic changed what people were looking for in their home and the flexible home designs by McCaffrey Homes fit that need, she says.

And if she could go back and give herself some advice during the early days of her career?

“I would trust in my abilities, my skills, and trust in the outcome pertaining to business decisions that always kept me on the path that gives me joy in doing what I love to do,” Sheryl says.
