Posted: September, 11, 2023 | Categories: Experience McCaffrey

When Cheryl started her career in the lending industry 38 years ago, she had no idea where her job would take her. As a loan agent working in the Bay Area, she later moved to Clovis to earn her broker’s license during the crash in 2008. What a ride!

Through all of the ebbs and flows, and varying housing markets, one of the biggest lessons Cheryl has learned is “this too shall change.” Learn how her service as a leader at McCaffrey Home Mortgage has made a difference for hundreds of new homebuyers to secure the home of their dreams

Q: Describe your job at McCaffrey Homes.

A: I am the branch manager for McCaffrey Home Mortgage. I manage a small team of two ladies, where we help people with the financing of their McCaffrey Home.

Q: How long have you been with McCaffrey Homes?

A: I have been with McCaffrey Homes going on for 10 years. Three years as a loan officer, seven as the branch manager.

Q: What about the company that made you want to stay for so many years?

A: I have stayed in this job for a number of reasons. First, I love the McCaffrey and Knowlton families. They have been wonderful employers. Second, I love the team I manage. Michelle Mohler, our loan officer and Veronica Becerra, our loan processor are the glue that holds it all together. We are a true team that work together to get our jobs done. Last but not least, there is a feeling of accomplishment when you know you have been a small part in helping our clients buy their McCaffrey home. We strive to make their home-buying experience a pleasant one. All in all I feel very blessed to be a part of this company!

Q: What is most important for homebuyers to know about obtaining a home loan?

A: Going through the process of purchasing a home can be stressful at times. Just know that every member of the McCaffrey team are experienced professionals. We’ve got you! We’re here to help you navigate through the home loan process. We love what we do, and you can be certain we are with you every step of the way.

Q: What do you feel is your biggest accomplishment so far with McCaffrey Homes?

A: My biggest accomplishment was becoming the branch manager of McCaffrey's mortgage company. It wasn’t in my long-term career plan, but I feel so lucky that it worked out the way it did!

Q: What does your day-to-day look like at work?

A: My daily work can consist of many jobs. Number one is making sure all is ok with our team. Seeing that we are all on track to make sure our loan pipeline is moving in the right direction from taking it in and getting it through closing. That can divide into many jobs. Reviewing new files coming in for pre-qualification, working with lenders on loan approval, working with escrow, and making sure our loans close on time. I also keep an eye out for new lenders that may have different loan programs to offer to our buyers. Lastly, I keep up with the DRE (Department of Real Estate) and the NMLS (National Mortgage Licensing System) to make sure we are in line with new rules and regulations and file required reports.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?

A: By far, it is working with the people. All of our staff, clients, lender partners, and the escrow team at McCaffrey have made my job extremely satisfying!

Q: What do you find most rewarding about your role?

A: I love that I can share my knowledge with my team. My wish for them is that they will grow in their positions. When it is my time to retire, I want them to always feel confident that they will be able to take over and not miss a beat.

Q: What do you like to do for fun outside of work?

A: I have a long list of activities! Number one is working on my family history. It is amazing how you can find out how your family fits into history. I also love to cook, bake, garden, craft, and read.

Q: Tell us about your family and home life!

A: I have been married for 48 years, and our best accomplishment was having our daughter Christy! I thank God every day that we have her. The joy of our life is our grandson Cameron, who attends UC Merced, working on a Computer Engineering degree. Last, but not least, is our dog Lady, who is the best dog we have ever had. I am truly blessed!

Q: Fun Fact:

A: My daughter lives in a beautiful McCaffrey home in Tesoro Viejo, and it is just perfect for her!
